All the hours of uncertainty during the
construction phase, whether it was built true and would perform to
expectations, were washed away with the maiden voyage off the shores of
Sidney on Vancouver Island. I was delighted at its responsiveness and
reaction to the waves and wind, like a knife through butter. The Solace
16XL became an instant friend which will no doubt provide many hours of
enjoyment and exercise, not unlike that expressed in the attached
photo. Many thanks for the guidance provided during the construction
phase, all long distance, the encouragement and mostly for talking me
into building it in the first place, adding to the pleasure of the total
experience. The boat turned a few heads on the trip over from Calgary
to Vancouver Island as it looked almost as impressive mounted on the
car as it did in the ocean!

I had the opportunity to use my kayak in
heavy winds in the bays of West Florida and my fears that the kayak
would slide down the whitecap whipped waves and tilt to leeward when
they were abreast, with the strong winds adding to the difficulties,
were abated as the kayak road up and through, maintaining the
horizontal stability built into the design."
As an aside, I had a multitude of
positive comments about the look as I traveled down, especially
at gas stations, and in the Florida waters as well.
