Building times, Costs, and Weights:
Keep in mind when you’re comparing building times, costs, and
weights, that our
kits include more components than other kits. The weight listed for
each model reflects the extra hardware we include for the finished product
opposed to other kit providers. Our boats will take
no more time to build and will be no heavier than the others (in most cases our hulls will be
faster to build). Other kit manufacturers only quote building times for
the basic boat. Our building times, costs, and weights include all the time and
components for the finished boat, with the stitch and glue adjustable seat, hip
braces, bulkheads, hatches with rubber seals, graphite, varnish, paddle park,
and the deck hardware.
World Class Components:
We
use only top quality components in our kits, including BS1088 Lloyds rated
okoume mahogany marine plywood (4mm, 6mm and 18mm) and epoxy
with clear coating non blushing hardener. We also use our exclusive “QuickLock System” TM
Interlocking Connector System on most of our newest models.
The QuickLock System has been designed and
perfected exclusively by Waters
Dancing Boat Kits. This system
holds a number of advantages for you as a boat builder:
It easily distinguishes the bow panels
from the stern panels.
It automatically takes care of
longitudinal alignment of the panels (no more string lines and
measuring, no more cutting scarf joints or plywood butt blocks).
You cannot connect the wrong panels
together (they won’t fit). You can’t join the pieces upside down
(they won’t fit).
Joining our panels is a “snap” you
save four hours or more over traditional methods, and you always get a
clean, attractive joint!
You gain increased accuracy, greater
strength and better shaping than with either butt blocks or scarf
joints. The QuickLock System eliminates potential flat spots.
Comprehensive Manuals:
Waters Dancing manuals are
exceptionally comprehensive (an average of 150 pages with 150 photographs and
CAD drawings). We do not know of any other kit providers who explain the
“how to” in such detail. You will also receive the an 18 page manual on
understanding epoxy. Every step of construction
is carefully detailed.
Our kits and manuals make it possible for
the most hesitant beginner to create their own beautiful boat and join the
rest of us, who love paddling in the great outdoors.

Kit Materials and Components:
Our kits come complete with all the CNC router pre-cut hull and deck
parts which are made from 4mm BS1088 Lloyds rated marine Okoume mahogany
plywood; the best quality available. We include an adjustable seat that is
so comfortable that it rivals any of the production boats molded seats. We
also include the fiberglass cloth, epoxy resin with clear coating non
blushing hardener, bulkheads,
hatches, deck hardware, paddle park, all stainless steel nuts, bolts, and
washers, 2015 flagship varnish and graphite to make the bottom of your
kayak wear like steel. Rubber gloves, small glue brushes, squeegee, mixing
tubs and syringes are also included. We even give you the dimensions for
the lengths to cut the webbing strips used to secure the hatch covers.
Detailing:
We grain match all the decks and hull parts. This feature significantly
enhances the look of your finished boat. This matching process involves
laying out and cutting all the parts in the order they will later be
assembled. The benefit is that the grain pattern may run from one part to
the next all the way up the side of your boat.
To further enhance your boat’s appearance, we receive our plywood
from the factory by the container load. This is important because each
veneer face is matched to the previous sheet so the hull often has the
effect of being book matched.
These may be subtle things but they add to the overall beauty of the
finished product. Consider it an extra thank you from us for choosing a
Waters
Dancing boat kit!

is a high volume, very stable boat that is maneuverable enough for those
looking for a river adventure.
(Waterline in inches 178.5”)
North lakes 19: One
of the most efficient freighter canoes ever made. (Waterline in
inches 223”)
What size/type boat will I need?
Note: The size of boat is often determined by the size of the paddler.
A larger paddler requires more volume to support their weight. Volume is
increased by making the hull wider and/or longer. The most efficient way
to increase volume is to increase the length. A long narrow hull moves
easier and faster than a short wide hull. If you plan to paddle extended
trips on large bodies of water or the ocean, you will want a longer kayak.
You get better glide (the distance the boat will coast with a single
stroke of the paddle) from a boat with a longer waterline

About our Epoxy
Our marine epoxy
has three different hardeners that are typically used in the
construction of boats with a clear finish.
We highly recommend
using the No-Blush hardener to achieve the longest lasting and
clearest finish possible.

The hardener we
supply in the kit is the No-blush slow cure hardener. We supply this
hardener because it is the best available. Other kit providers
either do not offer this option or charge extra for this level of
quality. Even though a regular slow hardener is not the recommended
hardener for clear coating most kit providers offer it as their
standard hardener. Our No-Blush hardener is U.V. stabilized and a
clear coating hardener recommended for "bright" (clear) finish
boats. Although you still require 2015Q Flagship varnish to protect
it from U.V. We of course recommend that you use our No-Blush
hardener for a clear durable finish that remains strong and flexible
for generations to come.
Note: We make the slow hardener
available in small quantities as a special order item. Simply mix
the slow hardener with the epoxy and add the graphite. Useful for
those who wish to have the maximum abrasion resistance on the bottom
of their hull.
Review the following is the
information on the available hardeners.
|
Fast
Hardener 5:1
Ratio
The fast
hardener is medium-viscosity epoxy curing agent. It is used
in a majority of situations, at lower temperatures and to
produce a rapid cure that develops its physical properties
quickly at room temperature. When mixed with our epoxy
resin in a five-part resin to one-part hardener ratio, the
cured resin/hardener mixture yields a rigid, high-strength,
moisture-resistant solid with excellent bonding and coating
properties. Not intended for clear coating.
Pot life at 72 Degrees F
(22C) 10 to 15 min. Cure to a solid state 6 to 8 hours
Cure to maximum strength 1
to 4 days
Minimum recommended temp 40
F (4 C)
Pumps
required 5:1 ratio 300ABC.
|
Slow Hardener
5:1 Ratio
The Slow Hardener is a low
-viscosity epoxy curing agent for use when extended working
and cure time is needed or to provide adequate working time
at higher temperatures. When combined with our epoxy resin
in a five-part resin to one-part hardener ratio, the cured
resin/hardener mixture yields a rigid, high-strength,
moisture-resistant solid with excellent bonding and coating
properties.
Not intended for clear
coating.
Pot life at 72 Degrees F
(22C) 20 to 25 min. Cure to a solid state 9 to 12 hours
Cure to maximum strength 1
to 4 days
Minimum recommended temp 60
F (16 C)
Pumps required 5:1 ratio
300ABC. |
Clear Coating No-Blush Hardener
3:1 Ratio
This hardener was especially
developed for use with our resin in coating applications
where an exceptionally clear, moisture-resistant, natural
wood finish is desired. Cures to a light amber color,
similar to traditional spar varnishes.
An ultraviolet inhibiting
additive improves the resistance of the resin/no-blush
hardener mixture to sunlight, but the cured epoxy surface
will still require the additional protection of a quality
UV-filtering varnish. No-Blush is designed to self level
for smooth finishes, and to wet-out and bond fabrics. It
provides good physical properties for general bonding
applications. It's also used for laminating veneers where
bleed through at joints may be exposed to sunlight.
Pot life at 72 Degrees F (22
C) 22 to 30 min
Cure to solid state 12 to 18
hours
Cure to maximum strength 4
to 7 days
Minimum recommended temp 60
F (16C)
Pumps required 3:1 ratio
300ABC. |
