Wooden Boat Magazine Issue 187 (November/December 2005) From “Currents” pp 17-18

Waters Dancing Boat Kit Company,

An Edmonton, Alberta, maker of precut plywood sea kayak kits, has designed a lightweight children’s kayak to help parents introduce young kids to boat building and paddling, Paul Stastny writes from Calgary.  Rather than scaling down an adult kayak, Don Moore, owner of Waters Dancing and a second generation kayak kit builder, designed the 10-footer specifically for children, with stability in mind.  The boat weighs only 20 pounds. The company, which, marked its 50th year of business this year and which sells over a dozen kayak and canoe kits, uses an epoxy-filleted longitudinal lap joint so each panel structurally supports the next.  Moore says he would prefer to use polyurethane glues on boats for children, to avoid epoxy exposure.  The glue would have enough strength to bond his structurally robust joint, but the problem to date has been finding a resin that works. “I talked to a number of different polyurethane manufacturers, but none of them was able to provide what we’re looking for because of foaming issues with the okoume plywood we use,” Moore says.

Take-apart kayaks are prized for their versatility and ease for globe-trotting paddlers.  But what good are
they for homebodies?  Plenty, apparently, at least for Canada's Waters Dancing, a maker of high-performance kit kayaks since 1955." See our Photo Gallery Lightning 12 TA for pictures.

The Cottage Magazine  - "A Wood Kayak Primer" by Jeff Salton  July-Aug 2000

"I think Waters Dancing of Edmonton have the best kits available and among the most attractive.  They have been designing and producing wooden canoe and kayak kits for many years. His kits come complete with interlocking panels, excellent instructions manuals."

EPOXYWORKS  "Waters Dancing offers easy to build kayak kits" Number 15 Spring 2000

"Waters Dancing started selling boat kits in the late 1950's.  The company is putting finishing touches on a new line of competitively priced kit kayaks from 14' to 21'.  Their Lightning 17' has proven itself in the field, with many already build and paddled throughout North America.  Don Moore has developed a unique method to join plywood and assemble boats.  The kits utilize the QuickLock System™, an interlocking connector joining system, which makes these boats easy to assemble without sacrificing strength or durability."
