We started producing and selling stitch and glue plywood canoe kits in 1972.  The Explorer 16 was designed in 1998 and we finished the prototype in the spring of 1999.  Making the Explorer 16 North Americas first precision cut multi-panel stitch and glue canoe kit.

Description

The Explorer 16 is a beautiful stitch and glue canoe with some unique features:  The seats are contoured to fit, making even long trips  comfortable .  They adjust for 12” of travel and can be easily removed.
The front seat can be turned around for paddling as a single. The ultra light stitch and glue carrying yoke is very comfortable, allowing a portage when necessary. There are removable 6” airtight ports at each end of the canoe so there is a dry place to store valuables and there is approximately 300 lbs. of combined flotation.
The high volume hull will hold a payload of about 700 lbs. The shallow vee bottom multi-chine (four) hull is exceptionally stable while at the same time is highly maneuverable when running your favorite river.
The Explorer 16 is a great family canoe for day use or tripping. Less experienced paddlers may add a keel (not included in the kit) to the exterior of the hull to assist the tracking in standing water (lake).

Waters Dancing Explorer 16 Canoe

Letter from an Explorer Builder
Attached pictures show my Explorer 16 on display at this weekend's Georgetown Wooden Boat Show at Georgetown, SC. The canoe got many, many comments on the seats and the puzzle joints. Most people would approach the boat and rub their hands along the contour of the seat as if they could not believe what they were seeing. I don't think that anyone I talked with had ever heard of the Waters Dancing company, but everyone was impressed with the kit results.

Many thanks for your product and assistance,
